About Allabroad Sail and Motor Courses
Stepping Stones
Each of the Allabroad sail and motor courses provides a stepping stone to the next course, culminating in a Certificate of Competence for those wishing to achieve the highest of standards. Depending upon your existing experience, you are free to dip in at any level. Allabroad is able to offer simple, honest advice to anyone unsure of the most suitable course.
Course Structure
The following diagram shows the structure of our courses. There is a logical progression from Essential Navigation and Seamanship to MCA RYA Yachtmaster Ocean (Sail), with the option of taking the shorebased courses to improve your understanding of the theory associated with the practical courses. You are free to dip in any any point, depending on your level of experience.

Practical & Shorebased
The Shorebased courses teach the theory necessary for the associated practical course. For example, the Day Skipper Shorebased course introduces basic seamanship and navigation, which are required to successfully complete the Day Skipper Practical course. To be awarded a certificate of completion for Shorebased courses, it is necessary to sit an exam. This is optional, but recommended. It provides tangible proof of your new found knowledge, and leaves you with something of which to be proud.
Certificates for practical courses are awarded upon completion of the course, based upon assessment throughout by our qualified instructors.
Certificates of Competence
To many, the Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore Certificates of Competence are the gold standard in yachting qualifications. Recognised worldwide, and required by many yachting companies, achieving either of these Certificates of Competence will not only prove your worth as a Yachtmaster, but will also open a world of opportunities. To ensure objectivity, all Certificate of Competence exams are assessed by independent Yachtmaster Examiners, who are not affiliated to Allabroad.
While there is no requirement to have attended any courses prior to taking the examinations, many students choose to do so, so that they are fully versed in all areas of the examinations, and confident of their abilities.
