Additional Fast Track Course Modules

A shipshape career

Our Fast Track training is as individual as you. Once you’ve achieved your Yachtmaster Offshore, you may choose additional courses to help steer your career in your chosen direction. Our range of additional course modules will help you to tailor your skills and achieve your goals.

Master of Yachts up to 200gt

In order to use your Yachtmaster for remuneration, you must have a commercial endorsement added to your certificate. When a commercial endorsement is added to a Yachtmaster Offshore or Yachtmaster Ocean certificate you will have the following endorsement:

  • “This certificate is valid for use as Master of Yachts up to 200gt on commercially and privately registered yachts until (date of expiry)”

Fast Track students who require a commercial endorsement will benefit from our assistance in arranging the required medical examinations locally on your behalf, and completing the application form and supporting documentation during the course.

Working worldwide on non-UK flagged vessels

In order for your Yachtmaster Offshore or Yachtmaster Ocean to be accepted by non-UK Maritime administrations, you are required to have attended four Basic Safety Training courses which comply with the international STCW 95 standard. Your certificate will have the following endorsement:

  • “The certificate holder complies with STCW 95 regulations V1/1 Sections V1/1-4.”

We include three of the four STCW 95 courses as standard in our Fast Track courses.

RYA Cruising Instructor

This course is for those who have a passion for sharing their skillls with others and who want to become a sailing or power instructor. The RYA Cruising Instructor (Sail) endorsment permits the teaching of RYA Competent Crew (Sail) and RYA Day Skipper Practical (Sail) at RYA recognised training centres. Whilst the RYA Cruising Instructor (Power) endorsment permits the teaching of Helmsman (Power) and Day Skipper Practical (Power) at RYA recognised training centres.

The Cruising Instructor qualification is valid for five years, after which it should be renewed by attending another Cruising Instructor course. Alternatively, when you have built up a season’s instructing experience and 7500 NM, you might consider taking your RYA Yachtmaster Instructor course which allows you to teach up to Yachtmaster Offshore.

Allabroad run the RYA Cruising Instructor course over one week for those who demonstrate both interest and potential in becoming instructors.

The requirements for the Cruising Instructor course are:
You already hold an MCA RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Sail or Motor certificate
A valid commercial endorsement
64 years maximum age limit
A valid Medical Fitness Examination (ML5 or ENG1) or medical issued by a National Maritime Authority
RYA Basic Sea Survival or STCW 95 Personal Survival Techniques
A valid RYA First Aid Certificate or STCW 95 Elementary First Aid or other accepted First Aid certificate
Ability and knowledge should be above the level of Yachtmaster

Assessment is continuous and the course is always conducted by either our Principal or our Chief Instructor, both of whom meet the RYA requirements for having instructed for over two years. You will discuss customer relations, various teaching methods and the importance of student expectations. You will also learn the value of positive briefing and debriefing sessions, and how to gain feedback and deal with difficult customers and complaints. Important areas such as duty of care, care of the yacht, environmental protection issues and your personal commercial responsibilities, including accident reporting procedures, are also covered in depth.

We expect high standards from Cruising Instructors, and as a result, we usuall only offer this course to those who we have trained extensively—namely our valued Fast Track students who we know have already achieved a high level of Yachtmaster Offshore skill and understanding. This benchmark has led to the recognition and respect of Allabroad trained Cruising Instructors by many in the industry, with a number of companies actively seeking to employ those trained by Allabroad.
