When Elizabeth Paine, Sailing Today’s Production Editor, had the chance to take her RYA Competent Crew in sunny Gibraltar, she leapt at the chance. Click the icon above to read about her experience at Allabroad.

During the Competent Crew course you will be encouraged to take an active part in all aspects of sailing the yacht. Everything, beginning with the very basics, will be explained and demonstrated by your friendly and accommodating RYA instructor. Emphasis is placed on teamwork, learning new skills, making new friends and seeing the sights of Gibraltar, Spain and Morocco.

We had a real blast doing the competent crew course with Allan and Allabroad.

We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and really appreciated the professional way Allabroad has handled everything before, during, and after the course. The yacht was great and the provisions seemed to fit all the different tastes assembled on board.

But above all, we profited from the excellent tuition by Allan. He had a very wholesome approach to teaching and managed to not only to deliver the textbook knowledge, but the whole magic of sailing, and made all the hard work fun. We had a wonderful week and really wished for it to last longer.

We really enjoyed all aspects of our vacation with Allabroad and definitely want to keep up sailing. Now we just have to find some space in our schedules… :)

If you are an experienced dinghy sailor, or have other previous sailing experience, then you could consider going straight on to the RYA Day Skipper Practical (Sail) course after studying RYA Day Skipper Theory first.
