Sail to Motor Conversion Course
This fully inclusive course is perfect if you want to convert your Yachtmaster Offshore Sail into the Yachtmaster Offshore Motor and open up more avenues in the maritime sector for yourself. Plus most importantly, since you’ll have trained on a yacht close to 15 meters in length you will be taken seriously when applying for positions on yachts up to 24 meters. This course is open to anybody who already has his or her Yachtmaster Offshore Sail.
The Allabroad Facilities
By choosing Allabroad Sailing Academy for your Yachtmaster Offshore Power you are buying into our 17 years of RYA Recognition. You will be learning onboard our Jeanneau Prestige 46 with twin 500hp turbo diesel Volvo engines, cruising comfortably at 20knts. You will have the full use of the two training rooms and crew lounge by personal keypad access 24 hours a day whilst in our Gibraltar training base. Our Instructional team is very experienced and dedicated to seeing you achieve your goals, many of our instructors have been with us for many years and do so because they share our passion for standards with a measure of good fun too. We also adopt a higher ratio of full Yachtmaster Instructors and Yachtmaster Examiners in our teaching team. Check the level of instructor carefully when comparing centers since many will use a Yachtmaster Power for this course; not even an instructor. That’s like serving you Quorn mince rather than steak.
STCW Endorsement & Commercial Endorsement
With the STCW endorsement, your Yachtmaster Offshore has a wider acceptance outside of British waters and gives you a wider variety of employment opportunities including the Superyacht sector for example. Choosing a training center that has both RYA and MCA status means that you benefit from the quality standards implemented and regularly audited by the MCA. If you do not already have the STCW Basic Safety Training we can add this to your training plan. Equally ask us about how to make your Yachtmaster Commercially endorsed.
Invest in Yourself
We do appreciate fully that committing to this course is a big investment in your time and in funds too. It’s also a big investment for Allabroad, this course is very expensive to run and that’s why we need your firm commitment from the start. Keep in mind that we can burn 1000 litres of fuel in a day; 1250nm of training roughly uses 7,000 litres of fuel and considerable engine hours. We’ve always made our pricing competitive in terms of the package and standard of your training vessel. This course will see you achieve great starting salaries in the industry and course fees will be quickly earned back. We are open and upfront that you will need to bring spending money for your personal entertainment ashore and also your personal laundry requirements.
1800 start on the first Sunday. A full schedule is given in the first week, which follows our trusted framework of activities mixing between distance cruising and honing fine skills on skills and drills development days. This is a full time course; it is not a walk in the park but it is fun too. You need to be adaptable, if you are not you are not suited to the Maritime industry. Whilst we give you the ideal training schedule, you can not expect this to occur in sequence, days off may turn into days at sea, days at sea may turn into shore based classroom days – we adapt to the circumstances, you need to too.
Firstly before we give course dates please let us know if the dates below do not fit with your schedule. There is some flexibility in these dates so do let us know when YOU want to start and we will check this is a good point to join. You need to be flexible when joining us for the 5 week conversion course since we know it may over run due to weather and other eventualities, this is yachting! So keep your time also flexible, you will finish when you've taken your Yachtmaster Power exam.
If you already have experience and are wanting to create a bespoke course length to suit you, the we need to see your current personal log of experience for under 24 meter category, and if you are claiming experience for the over 24 meter category we need to see your supporting Captain’s Testimonial’s or Seaman’s Discharge Book.
