RYA Coastal Skipper Motor
The Coastal Skipper Motor course is designed for those skippers who already have the experience to Day Skipper Power level and would like to progress further to learn more navigational skills, pilotage by day and night as well as advanced boat handling.
You will gain experience of handling our 15m Jeanneau Prestige motor yacht with both engines, and the more tricky single engine manoeuvres. Planning a longer costal passage is part of this course which will put your navigational and skippering skills to the test as you visit new marinas and plan safe entry by day and by night. You are expected to know your collision regulations and be proficient with sound signals, lights and shapes and buoyage.
The course is also a perfect stepping stone to MCA RYA Yachtmaster Coastal and MCA RYA Yachtmaster Offshore – teaching you the skills and knowledge required for these commercial Certificates of Competence.
Previous Experience Required:
In order to gain the upmost from this course you will need the practical experience to Day Skipper Motor level having been actively skippering a motor yacht over the last couple of years and have completed at least 300 nm, with fifteen days on board (including two days as skipper) and have ideally done eight night hours.
Due to the higher standards of navigation covered in this course we suggest that you have completed the RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Theory course within the last couple of years, or have completed a refresher. This can be done through our Online study course or during a seven day classroom course which we run once per month on set dates.
1800 Sunday until 1600 Friday
We offer our Coastal Skipper Motor throughout the year by request. With lots of flights to Gibraltar airport, only 5 minutes away from our offices, and only a short distance from Malaga, we ask you to join us on the Sunday evening you will have time to relax before the course starts on the Monday morning.
The first question we are always asked “is fuel included” and the answer is a definite yes, together mooring fees – so no large bills at the end of your week. We also include a light lunch for each day at sea and you can then relax in the evenings ashore and sample the local quayside restaurants. Accommodation may be possible if required. 100nm and a night entry are included in this course along with at least one day as skipper for your personal log records.
