Achieving RYA Day Skipper gives you the skills to skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day and is accepted widely by charter and flotilla operators and will open up a host of exciting life adventures on the waters.

We offer 3 routes to Day Skipper which are fun, challenging and intense courses that will keep you focussed on passage planning, close quarter manoeuvring and seamanship. You’ll meet lots of new people, make new friends, visit lively marinas and quiet anchorages and learn heaps!

Choose your course

We offer three packages depending on your existing skills, experience and qualifications, so that even if you are brand new to sailing you can qualify as a Day Skipper in just 14 days.

1) Day Skipper Fast Track – zero-to-hero in 14 Days

Course includes: RYA Competent Crew; RYA Day Skipper Theory; RYA Day Skipper Practical

This hugely popular course takes those with no or little experience to Day Skipper qualification. The first 5 days (Mon-Fri) are spent on the water, learning the ropes as Competent Crew, followed by Saturday and Sunday in the classroom studying navigation theory. You’ll then head out on the water for 5 days of Day Skipper skills before completing your final 2 days in the classroom. On successful completion of all elements you’ll be a qualified RYA Day Skipper.

2) Day Skipper Express – 9 Days

Course includes: RYA Day Skipper Theory: RYA Day Skipper Practical

If you’ve already completed your Competent Crew (or equivalent standard), this course is ideal, including 5 days on the water learning skills and drills from the Day Skipper syllabus, plus the weekend before and after in the classroom studying theory.

This is a great option if you’d rather study theory in the classroom than online – however, if you’re short on time, ask about our online theory courses and then you can book the 5-day Day Skipper Practical at a later date.

Note: Candidates who take this course without the prerequisite experience will struggle as the course builds on basic existing knowledge covered in the Competent Crew syllabus.

3) RYA Day Skipper Practical Only – 5 Days

Course includes: RYA Day Skipper Practical

This course is the standard RYA Day Skipper Practical and is suitable for this who have already passed their Competent Crew and completed their Day Skipper Theory.

But it’s not all hard work!

Running a couple of times each month, these courses are fun, action packed and a great experience. You’ll get to cruise to amazing locations along the Spanish and North African coasts (the weather will determine where!), learning skills and drills by day and relaxing marina-side or explore the local area in the evening.

Plus you’ll experience a stunning night sail with the lights of Gibraltar and Morocco on the horizon.
