Allabroad sailing academy
Our story
Allabroad Limited was established in 1998 with the purchase of a brand new Moody 46 and started as a yacht charter business setting out from the UK on a worldwide sailing adventure. In 1999 we stopped on route in Gibraltar and never left, that’s how great a place Gibraltar is for sailing!
- 2000 – Became an RYA Training Centre.
- 2002 – Launched one of the first ever Fast Track Yachtmaster courses.
- 2008 – Become a MCA Accredited Training Provider and leading centre for STCW training.
- 2014 – Launched sister brand ‘Allabroad Maritime Academy’ delivering courses to emergency services, customs, government and police.
- 2016 – Grew our fleet and invested in extensive shore-based facilities/classrooms.
- 2023 – Extended range of MCA courses to support maritime professionals to progress through the ranks.
Allabroad is now known as an international centre of training excellence attracting students from not only UK and Europe, but from as far away as the USA, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Our Training Standards
Training at all levels, on modern high performance yachts, not only offers a superb learning experience but delivers spacious onboard accommodation and the comforts of contemporary living. For example our Jeanneau 389 sailing yachts all have USB charging ports in all cabins along with a two pin European style electrical sockets.
Running new sailing yachts comes at a great expense to the company but delivers a tangible benefit to you the client – this approach is driven by our ethos of working up to a standard and not down to a price. As a result Allabroad has become a favorite amongst discerning trainee skippers of all levels, who want to be up to speed with the real world demands that skipper’s of modern yachts face.
Our reputation for training excellence, across the sailing and superyacht industry, is second to none.
Unrivalled facilities
When you train at Allabroad you have access to unrivalled shore-based facilities as part of your training package.
- 2 modern shore-based training rooms, in the heart of Marina Bay
- Accessible 24-7 for private study.
- Free WiFi.
- Study anytime.
More than a sailing school, we’re proud to be an internationally recognised maritime academy providing a full range of professional shore-based courses. Our reputation is second to none and our trainees include maritime professionals from the Port of Gibraltar, HM Customs, Royal Gibraltar Police and Gibraltar Defence Police as well as superyacht crew and mariners calling in at Gibraltar.
The Sailing Area
Gibraltar is the perfect sail training area, not only due to being tidal, but having 300 days of sunshine each year. We are just as busy in October to February as we are in the spring and summer months.
Whilst there’s no requirement for tidal experience for RYA Competent Crew and Day Skipper the clients that come to us are the ones that still want real tidal experience but with the comfort and warmth of the Med climate. Plus, with easy travel by air into Gibraltar and Malaga (1-hour 30-mins by coach/taxi) from Gatwick, Luton, Heathrow, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester airports and many European international hubs, it’s easy to fly in and out.
The Straits of Gibraltar have many challenges for the developing skipper with strong currents, tidal rips, traffic separation scheme and one of the most unique night pilotage exercises with the variety of natural maritime activities. We regularly see dolphins and sometimes whales and even basking sharks… but we steer clear of the Orca’s by hugging the coastline.
Testimonial
Don’t just take our word for it...
I did the one month gold package. So so grateful for James and Jason…. both absolute legends….. very professional demeanour, would absolutely recommend! I’ll definitely be back here when it comes time to do my Yachtmasters.
