Solar Eclipse – Sailing Spectacular
On Monday 2 August 2027, all eyes will be on Gibraltar for a spectacular total solar eclipse. We’re really looking forward to sharing this unforgettable event with you.
During this special period, all five Allabroad yachts will be dedicated to Day Skipper Fast Track and Yachtmaster Fast Track sailing courses. Therefore, if you want to combine your sailing training with the 2027 solar eclipse in Gibraltar, these are the dates to aim for:
- Day Skipper Fast Track – 14 nights: Sunday 25 July – Sunday 9 August – £2,495 per person
- Yachtmaster Fast Track – 12 weeks: Sunday 4 July – Sunday 3 October – £10,950 per perso
Enjoy the Solar Eclipse While Sailing in Gibraltar
For those who would prefer to take things a little slower, we also offer a 2-week private sailing charter for family and friends.
During your charter, you can complete your RYA Competent Crew course or refresh and upskill your tidal sailing experience. In addition, there is plenty of time to relax and enjoy Gibraltar and the surrounding coastline.
Perhaps you’ll spend part of the day anchored off a sandy bay. You could jump in for a swim, enjoy lunch on deck, or explore the local towns.
This private charter is available for 2–5 people. It runs Sunday 25 July to Sunday 9 August
What to Expect – timing and weather conditions
Not only is the 2 August 2027 solar eclipse a total solar eclipse, but totality will also last for more than four minutes. This makes it an especially exciting event to experience from the water.
Partial eclipse will start at 09:41, with totality beginning at 10:45. Maximum totality will occur at approximately 10:47.
Importantly, the eclipse starts around two hours after sunrise. As a result, the contrast between the darkness of totality and the bright summer sky should make the experience even more spectacular.
Gibraltar Weather in August
August in Gibraltar is typically predictable, with hot, dry conditions and clear blue skies. We normally enjoy around 10 hours of sunshine each day.
The sea temperature is around 22°C. Therefore, conditions are expected to be excellent for viewing this rare solar event.
In particular, the quality and duration of totality make the Gibraltar solar eclipse 2027 an exceptional event to experience at sea.
Travelling to Gibraltar for the Solar Eclipse
Flights on the 2 August to Gibraltar are already busy, but as these courses start over a week ahead of the eclipse, there are more travel options available to you.
- Fly into Gibraltar or Malaga (Malaga Airport is a 90 minute coach journey to La Linea, the border town with Gibraltar).
- Seville provides another option and is a beautiful city to visit if you have a couple of days spare before or after the course. Seville is around 2 hours from Gibraltar by road and you can take a bus/coach to Algeciras and then onto La Linea.
Accommodation in Gibraltar for the eclipse – it’s included!
Accommodation in Gibraltar is already becoming limited for the weeks surrounding the total solar eclipse in August 2027. This is due to increased demand from visitors travelling to experience the event.
The good news is that accommodation is included with our sailing courses throughout your stay. Therefore, you don’t need to find a hotel or Airbnb in Gibraltar.
Instead, you can focus on your sailing course and enjoy the incredible 2027 solar eclipse from Gibraltar.

Day Skipper Fast Track (Solar Eclipse)
Experience required: No previous experience.
What can I do with my Day Skipper certification: RYA Day Skipper is accepted by most holidays yacht charter operators, meaning that after qualifying, your next holiday could be a yacht charter with friends, island hoping in Croatia or Greece for example.
What’s included: All training, 14-nights onboard a yacht, breakfasts and lunches on sailing days, use of our onshore training room with free WiFi.

Yachtmaster Fast Track (Solar Eclipse)
Experience required: No previous experience.
What can I do with my Yachtmaster Fast Track Pro certification: RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Pro is the standard required for most deckhand and skipper roles on professionally run yachts and superyachts. It’s widely recognised throughout the world and in the key cruising areas in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. Candidates go on to roles as charter skippers/crew, superyacht deckhands, delivery crew as well as becoming sailing instructors or sailing in their own yachts for leisure.
What’s included: All training, accommodation throughout onboard a yacht, all meals, use of our onshore training room with free WiFi.
